Love working there but us workers are paid well below the poverty level while our executives make bigger bonuses. - Department Manager Guitar Center Employee Review

Pros

Family environment among the workers, employee discount, customer relationships are great but they don't see value in anything besides numbers.

Cons

Compensation is not at all fair. Many of us have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to pay our rent and feed ourselves. Company is moving into the future of Multi-channel but leaving it's greatest asset (the employees) behind while our executives make larger bonuses every year. Wage system is set up for us to not earn money. Our biggest online competitor is Musicians Friend, many customers come in and get our expertise but then go and purchase online instead because it's cheaper. The only problem is that Guitar Center owns Musicians friend so, GC wins, the customer gets a better deal but us sales associates are the only ones getting screwed. I earn GC about $120,000 a year in profit but they pay me about 14k annually. Thats paying me 15% of what I earn them, how is that justified. There "you decide your own paycheck, and fake open-door policy" is nothing more than to put the poor wages on the employee not the employer.

Pros

Sweet deals and discounts Coworkers are very pleasant to work with Good as extra income Good for aspiring musicians to network with experts of the industry

Cons

Obsolete softwares Scheduling system software that is thenmost imperative tool as of it will be the backbone of a lesson lead for your team of instructors success it's also somewhat obsolete amd constantly crashing both IT and Upper management are aware. IT is very diligent and pleasant to work with but Upper management expects their lessons lead to work and deliver at 100% capacity while they continue to have an operating system that only works at 75% capacity, just beware of that and if you're willing to work under those conditions. With that put there go at your own discretion. Nobody gets Christmas/winter holiday vacation time off, also go at your own discretion on that one especially if you have kids and family looking for work-life-balance.
