Pros

Above average pay/work environment, I enjoyed it more than other retail jobs I have worked in the past. The store is clean and you get a discount on their brands.

Cons

They are a Texas specific company and thus are allowed to use a non-subscriber "worker's compensation" plan due to the state's de-regulation. Once injured I was hung out to dry, they payed for the medical bills but they made their plan so that you don't get any income compensation unless you still work in the store (which was basically impossible due to the nature of the injury, they committed very little effort to create an accommodating position for me effectively denying me the ability to work and thus falling short of their requirements for the benefits plan). I feel like I was disposable once I got injured. They also severely reduce your hours at the end of the fiscal year to avoid your qualification for their employee benefits, and when I asked the General Manager for consistent full-time/part-time work hours (so I could qualify, although I didn't directly admit this) he laughed at me and said "Only the best employees get full-time", effectively calling me a bad employee.

Pros

Working closing at Food Service in Bakery is much more pleasant than morning shift, less oversight but! you are still held to a high standard to complete all your tasks. You get raises twice a year, depending on your performance. All my co-workers are very nice and my manager is friendly too.

Cons

Rush dates like Valentines, Mother's Day, big sports events, Thanksgiving (PIES!!), and Christmas can be challenging but as long as you don't talk too much and just do the work, it'll be okay.

Pros

None. Get out while you can.

Cons

Houston location has the worst leaders. They're cheap with raises and cut the good people so the management team can get better bonuses. They make up rules that make no sense when they feel like. There are guys in the yard who have no job titles but somehow are still working there doing nothing all day? The safety leads/radio room/management are a joke. They cover up for the people they're buddies with. Ran into the gate? Destroy thousands of dollars of goods or a trailer? Ran out of gas in the middle of the road driving the mule offsite? Not a problem if you're buddies with management and safety. If you're buddies with management, you get opportunities offered to you even though you may be among the worst and slowest spotters. If you're not buddies with management/safety/radio, you have to watch your back. HEB corporate needs to look into management here.
