Pros

The company embraces technology and isn’t falling behind, at least at the office level. Communication is strong across the organization, which makes it easier to succeed in any role. Peers and leaders are generally supportive, though this can vary by region and district. The pay is decent, especially if you have a solid team and manage your time well.

Cons

Training can be inconsistent. While the Tax School is excellent and highly valued, the self‑paced training isn’t effective for everyone. Some individuals struggle with independent learning (click-through the training without spending time reading and learning) and need structured guidance. Tax professionals are sometimes over-accommodated, which can create challenges with accountability and expectations. Breaks are difficult to take during peak days. Even though breaks aren’t legally required in some states, shifts over eight hours should automatically include break time to support well‑being and performance. Some highly skilled Tax Pros are resistant to coaching, often because expectations have been softened over time. Not all Tax Pros fully understand the business, which can impact decision‑making and client experience. Many Tax Pros don’t have time to read or respond to messages. There should be 30–60 minutes built into the day specifically for communication. With offices spread out and teams of 20–40 people, verbal communication, which is what most require, isn’t realistic. Hours are tightly budgeted. Office leaders are expected to coach, but they also handle urgent issues, make and take client calls, office visits, repetitive meetings, and in some cases tax preparation, making it difficult to balance all responsibilities effectively.

Pros

Flexible availability. Path for promotion is obvious and quantified.

Cons

Bonus/commission it is based on level and sales so is low in states without a state tax form. Hourly wage comes out of bonus. Pressure to sell items that don't add to your commission. They push customer surveys but you can be penalized if someone complains about the company, price, amount of emails etc even though you have no control. Some employees are frustratingly low quality and you will spend time helping or fixing their mistakes time that works against your commission. You are expected to answer phones, make appointments, scan, print, take money, help new comers all while maximizing returns. If you take over someone's client and find a mistake you are expected to work against your commission to file amendments peace of mind claims etc.
