Cons
Long story short is that if you don’t go way out of your way for licenses and certifications, you become less marketable and they will lay you off. I didn’t pass my PE exam, they used that against me by first giving me essentially no salary increase at the end of the year then laid me off the next year. I didn’t even have the chance to retake the exam because it was cancelled due to covid. You need to suck up in order to move up
