I worked here between undergrad and law school. I saved some money and had time outside work to do my law school applications and have a life, so that was nice.
Cons
My entire life, I have been encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and engage in open communication -- until this job. Every day I was treated like an idiot for asking questions, even as a new employee within my first ~6 months of working. My boss absolutely ripped me apart for every mistake I made and gave me the cold shoulder when I genuinely needed help. The work is monotonous and extremely tedious. I regularly had to fix things like simple typos or one-word discrepancies over and over again. I barely got any human contact; all you do at this job is sit at your computer all day. If I didn't make an effort, I could go an entire day without speaking to anyone. You get no creative license or personal input on anything at all. Everything must be confirmed or approved by someone else and your opinion is never valued or relevant. I've learned nothing about immigration law that I had hoped to learn, such as what the statutes are and how the process works. This isn't really a law job, it's really just human spell-check. We never get to find out if cases are approved or not and/or why. No upward mobility. Turnover rate is extremely high. Workload is unsustainable and most people quit within their first 6 months. Additionally, their COVID response was abysmal. Writers and attorneys were allowed to work from home but those in my position had to come to work every day 40+ hours a week. We were told we could have a 30 min lunch break to social distance, but most people ate at their desk (a great way to spread COVID!) because the workload is impossible to complete in an 8hr day. Some of our cubicles weren't 6ft apart, either, and there was absolutely no plan for WFH even months into the pandemic, except having employees do menial tasks from home in rare circumstances when they had COVID symptoms or have been exposed. The work is boring, management is insufferable, and the job overall lowers morale. Oh, and management retaliates against their employees.
