Pros
Benefits are good, if you need them, but its hard to make elections unless you and your dependents need all or none. The mission and vision are refreshing and ambitious. Management encourages you to stick to a 40 hour week and won't give you access remotely without a bunch of special approval. Its nice not having to expect a long work week and to see your area clear out at the same respectable time every day.
Cons
Pay isn't great, it isn't even competitive. I took a cut coming to this job hoping for a better work life. I still end up stressed because I feel like I don't have any influence over making things better. There are opportunities to move up in many areas when you're starting your career, but when you get to the middle you start to notice the opportunities aren't there much any more. This is when most leave HMSA. They need to create ways to keep middle career people interested or help them move up. It seems there are 2 paths to management: pay your time (most leadership has been around 20+ years) or be the favorite pet. This way, you end up with people who have been around too long and are stuck in their ways, or you end up with people who really don't know what they're doing. Its not uncommon to see someone running an area they have little to no experience in.
