Harbor Foods Group

Is this your company?

Great family culture and reasonable benefits. Work-life balance, pay, and support of the culture need some improvements. - Anonymous Harbor Foods Group Employee Review

Pros

Harbor is a family-owned company with visionary leadership and opportunities for growth for those starting out in entry-level positions. The company hosts great events to promote employee morale and employee-vendor-customer engagement. Great senior management (VPs, CEO, COO, CFO).

Cons

Salaried employees are given high expectations (sometimes unreasonably) with limited autonomy and few opportunities for additional training, professional development, and team building. Opportunities for advancement are somewhat limited, primarily given the size of the company, and inconsistent displays of quality leadership and company values amid some (not all) mid-level management (Directors), which are damaging to the company's reputation with the outside community.

Pros

A lot of free samples sent to me. The sales meetings were paid for by the company. I had great customers. I could start my day at my home office and hit the road by 9am. Most days I was back home by 4:30 pm.

Cons

Micromanaging from the local Director of Sales. The company likes to change the software on a whim and expect you to learn it with little training. Was told I had to learn 5 different apps that gave the same information and was difficult to manage. When I converted to commission included pay, I was told I didn't have a choice and lost approx. $1000 a month, even though I stepped up my selling. Then they took the $0.70/mile reimbursement away and put us on Motus, where I lost another $1200/month.
