Pros
Maintenance team was dedicated and knowledgeable. We all taught each other a lot and worked our butts off to meet the demands of the office team. Benefits were great and pay was competitive. Employee discount on rent was great. Team I was on allowed me to take literally as much on-call as I wanted and I banked it for about 2 months straight.
Cons
The office team on the property knew little about the actual day to day of maintenance and often made demanding or unrealistic requests of the maintenance team. We were regularly lectured on contractor expenses etc. however we could not get approval to get expensive equipment that would have eliminated the need for plumbers and other such contractors. I actually put in my two weeks the same day I was chewed out for saying we needed roto-rooter for a kitchen sink back up and was instructed by the property manager to furnish my own drain auger to save the property money. At another point a month or so prior we were instructed that we had to do mandatory over time for an indeterminate amount of time. The work life balance wasn’t ever great but that’s pretty routine with maintenance.
