Pros

They pay you based on your years of experience and you have the option to negotiate your salary. They have good PTO earnings.

Cons

Managers hire people from their own country/culture. I worked in a surgical unit where the entire staff on nights are from the same foreign country and nobody spoke English. Communication with co-workers is hard. And if you don't speak their native language, you'll have a hard time working with them. Staff members aren't driven to develop professionally. Managers focus more on charting correctly than taking care of the patient. There's a general lack of motivation. People just work there to earn a steady paycheck. Now that patients are patronizing other hospitals like Memorial Herman, ICU nurses are being laid off or resigning in large numbers. If I were a patient, I wouldn't want my nurses speaking a different language around me, giving bedside report in a foreign language. And this is America! Good riddance! I'm so glad I no longer work there.
