Pros

The department I was in when I started at HealthEquity was flat out awesome. The camaraderie, emphasis on working together, and extreme ownership made a department that was awesome to work in. The work/life balance was awesome, management was honest, and benefits were phenomenal. The entire company was true to its purple culture and emphasized it in every corner of your day to day business. Even when faced with difficulties or high workload, you got whatever support you needed to do your job.

Cons

I had no cons with my position other than extremely mundane issues until the WageWorks acquisition occurred. With this acquisition the department I was in had a big reorganization that led to some WageWorks management taking control of my department. What seemed at first as just simple misunderstandings due to the difference in cultures gave way to constant gaslighting. WageWorks management had a our way or the highway attitude towards approaching problems and treated my department as though we were just another company they had acquired. No matter how often we were promised things would improve, things only got worse and the work increased without any promised help. The promises were constant, but deadlines were never hit and nobody wanted to own up to failing on delivering. On top of this no HealthEquity employees received any promotions after the reorganization in my department. In fact many were demoted whereas our WageWorks equivalents were promoted across every department. With the placement of a glass ceiling in my department came the destruction of work/life balance, WageWorks leadership never replying to issues presented to them, and the disappearance of HealthEquity's purple culture. It was these multiple factors that drove me to leave HealthEquity.

Pros

Benefits, perks, remote work, unlimited PTO, and stock options.

Cons

Unfortunately, what has happened with most companies that grow too fast has occurred here. Too much focus on sales and marketing, and diminished focus on retaining clients or making sure new technology and processes are properly trained. Because of miscommunication and a lack of training, it's impossible to get help from other departments without a ton of pushback. Management would rather blame employees for problems than examine why processes aren't working properly. They now want all roles to sell product, even though that is not in their job descriptions. I wish HR would be more involved in how management speaks to employees because it's incredibly unethical and problematic every time we have a meeting. Whoever the C-suite is listening to on how to be good leaders should be fired, because they are taking a page out of every toxic workplace stereotype, instead of looking at how things can be ethically and properly fixed. There is no focus on clients or employees anymore, just getting more money.
