Pros

Top notch facilities in all their stores. Once had innovative approaches to an ever changing business climate. Due to a long history there are many great employees. Looks good on your resume.

Cons

Has become way too corporate. Instead of each store having an autonomous GM there are now regional managers who are nothing more than puppet masters. Their first directive is showing more profit. The short term solution is to cut payroll by introducing new, very aggressive and unattainable pay plans and eliminating some mid level managers. Those left behind assume duties once held by departed staff at a lower compensation level and longer hours. I was given a "promotion" after a manager left, it took a month to get a new pay plan that was less than what I made in a lower position with the requirement of more hours. There are people who have been in new positions for 90 plus days with no pay plan. The reduced staff are overworked to the point that simple requests such as logins for new employees, business cards, ID badges and the like take weeks instead of days. It can take up to a month to get employees processed after hire. All of the midlevel managers at our store left within a few months. I left of my own accord. Got an upper management job with a smaller auto group with only a GM to answer to and, get this, a decent pay plan with less required hours.

Pros

I enjoy meeting our customers. No days are the same. Flexible schedule. I'm the face of Hendrick GM parts and understand the importance of my role in keeping our customer base and expanding it.

Cons

None. I have great support and I bring back information that helps determine decisions to improve sales.

Pros

Solid corporation Corporate culture is positive Community initiatives are second to none Free health care Freedom to move

Cons

It's sales. When the economy is soft, commissions can be tight. Most locations work on a volume pay plan rather than gross profit. Most of your coworkers' primary qualification is the ability to fog a mirror. While you can largely come and go as you please, it's still expected that you are on the lot no less than 50 hours a week, leaving very little room for work-life balance.
