Pros

The biggest pros are your immediate coworkers. The ones you see every single day. From the CD, to the PTs, to the ES’s. Aside from that, the only other pro would be the flexibility in hours at times.

Cons

This company is expanding too quickly, and the clinics are paying the price. Some locations that have been open for less than a year still have no admin staff, just one or two PTs, while leadership remains fixated on opening 20 more clinics instead of supporting the ones they already have. The recent merger only makes things worse—now the focus is split between opening new clinics or the merger. Promotions seem to be handed out to anyone willing to stay, regardless of performance. If you consider leaving, leadership gets desperate and throws a title and a few cents your way, rather than addressing the real issue: low pay. They’re expanding deeper into Massachusetts but “can’t afford” to offer MA-competitive salaries—then wonder why retention is such a problem. We’re expected to not only perform clinically but also take on additional projects and practice manager-level responsibilities, with no resources or compensation to match. Communication is abysmal. New processes are implemented without proper rollout or explanation, and the people most affected are always the last to know. The managers are rarely available and avoid confrontation, preferring to send follow-up emails weeks later instead of addressing problems directly. The regional directors are practically ghosts. Leadership tries to sell the company to potential hires without even understanding what the clinics actually need—so new employees arrive with expectations that don’t align, and we’re left scrambling to meet unrealistic numbers based on staffing levels we never had.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We’re committed to maintaining a supportive and transparent culture and encourage all team members to use our internal channels—like our quarterly feedback surveys and direct access to HR—to help shape meaningful improvements. Honest, solutions-focused conversations are the most effective way for us to understand concerns and respond in ways that make a difference—for both our people and our clinics. We care deeply about the experience of every team member and remain committed to listening, learning, and improving.

Pros

Fast-paced environment makes your days go by fast. I learned a lot early on as someone with minimal background in healthcare.

Cons

I'm frankly baffled by the number of people claiming Highbar is not a mill. There are many locations so maybe it varies, but where I was working as an aide I was almost always trying to keep track of 2-4 patients simultaneously, which did not equate to quality patient care. Sure seemed like a mill to me. The compensation was remarkably poor given how much aides did to hold the place together. I did not have the feeling that the organization or the people particularly cared about me as an individual.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and perspective. We appreciate hearing from former team members, and feedback like this helps us continue to learn and improve. At Highbar, our care model is built around collaborative teams that include Physical Therapists and Exercise Specialists working together to provide exceptional care. Exercise Specialists are an intentional part of the care team, not traditional aides, and receive additional training and development opportunities, including regular lunch and learn sessions designed to foster growth in the field. We are glad to hear you learned a lot during your time with us. We are sorry to hear that this position did not meet your expectations in other ways. Creating an environment where people feel valued and where patient care remains thoughtful and collaborative is very important to us, which is why we regularly seek feedback from our teams and use it to inform improvements. We are grateful you were part of the team and wish you the very best as you continue in your career.
