Pros
In my life, I've been a long-time advocate of Montessori, a trained Montessori teacher, a school administrator, and an entrepreneur. I can honestly say that working at Higher Ground has been the highlight of my career. Everyone's opinion is valued, dissent is appreciated, and there is open communication about what is going on at all levels of the company. I've never worked in a place that has anywhere near the level of effective teamwork or consensus-based decision-making that Higher Ground does. Creatively, I get just the right amount of feedback on my work - and the feedback I get consistently makes my end product better. On the wider scale, I am so excited and honored to be a part of what we are working to create. I love knowing that Montessori schools and traditional daycares that might not have made it will be given another chance because of us. I love that we're working towards an amazing goal - educating people about Montessori and giving every family that wants a Montessori school for their child that option. I've been inspired by Montessori education my whole life, and what we're working towards inspires me from head to toe!!
Cons
I am expected to be fully responsible for my work, and for keeping the commitments I make to our team. Though there's easy forgiveness for any mistakes I've made (I know - I've made mistakes!) I've had to give 100% and practice not biting off more than I can chew. We're all working at 100% capacity right now, and I'm definitely proud of the work I've done - I honestly didn't know I could be this productive! The con is that it is hard. So, if you're not into really stretching and pushing yourself to be better and being on a steep learning curve every day, this is not the place for you.
