Pros
I've been with Highmark for almost five years now, started my journey halfway through college in an entry-level, on-site leasing specialist role and as I crossed huge life milestones like getting married, graduating from college, and the birth of our first child, the company grew with me. They sponsored my CAM certification as a leasing specialist, something unheard of in our industry. Not only are there incredibly progressive benefits laid out that really supported my health and that of my family like 30% off rent for associates on all of our properties, generous tuition reimbursement, complimentary life insurance and two weeks of paid parental leave for new moms AND dads, but the personal care that I received from my on-site colleagues and regional team when my son was born prematurely and my wife and I spent his first 96 days in the hospital was truly what made me want to lay down deep roots here. Now as we expand our teams to focus more on localized recruiting and employee care, I'm fortunate enough that they tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a chance to extend the same care that I received from the very beginning. God has used those around me at Highmark to open doors and bless the lives of my family. Lord-permitting, I'm locked in for life.
Cons
After a couple of years in the leasing role with all those life milestones, I felt that I hit a wall and lost focus and motivation. While that ultimately was on me and likely prompted from wanting a huge change after finishing school (even though they recognized the accomplishment by bumping up my base pay anyways) I wish there were more coaching resources beyond my on-site leadership to guide me through it. Thankfully, I got it figured out and now have the opportunity to be part of the solution in my new role and there are more and more resources to come.
