Pros

Always highly ranked and good location

Cons

Where do I start? Toxic culture from the top down. It's rosy the first few months then you realize you are stuck in a job with no evolution, management support, tools to actually do your job effectively, and you 100% have no chance of driving any change for improvement. If you are ok with a clock in-clock out job, salaried or hourly, without opening your mouth, then this is a job for you. Mass exodus of top talent in last couple years with acceleration in last 6 months. Just look at the upper management for the usual toxic suspects. C-Suite and upper management value "Yes" people only to enter their inner circle. They talk about being innovative, but the politics will never let you get to do anything. Best you pipe down and do your work. During pandemic no one was allowed to work from home, and they still hold this culture to this day. They put out emails saying they support it, but upper management makes comments about how you can, "go on furlough if you can't work in the office." UCI Health, Providence and City of Hope all allowed work from home and support it. Don't talk about your kids or mention you have kids. They will immediately hold it against you. They talk about how great their culture is but the fear factor is strong. It doesn't help when management receive anonymous feedback from staff then spend days telling other management "I bet I know who said that" instead of actually taking the constructive feedback and learning from it. Point is, if you give negative feedback to leadership, you are out. Diversity and talk of diversity is a big joke.

Pros

My time working at Hoag Hospital as an IT Trainer has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve truly appreciated the work-life balance, which has helped me feel supported both professionally and personally. Hoag has created an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and connected. I always look forward to the annual IT summits and IT town halls because they bring everyone together, encourage learning, and help us stay connected to the bigger picture within IT. I’ve especially appreciated the emphasis on employee engagement and the effort leadership puts into making employees feel included and informed. Those experiences have contributed to a strong sense of community and pride in being part of the Hoag team.

Cons

One challenge I have experienced is that opportunities to participate in certain projects or initiatives do not always feel evenly distributed, which can make professional growth feel inconsistent across team members. In addition, there have been times when the work environment has felt more micromanaged than expected for a salaried position, particularly in situations where employees are capable of working independently. I believe increased trust, autonomy, and equitable access to development opportunities could further strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.
