Pros
Good benefits, adequate pay and state of the art facility; Profitable business
Cons
Leadership and management are deceptive in their presentation. They present as accountable and open to employee input. However, punitive actions are directed towards employees who present issues that require change. While Hoag presents with state of art facilities and maintains an image as an exemplary healthcare provider, the RN staffing is consistently out of ratio which results in a lack of sufficient breaks outside of the legal guidelines. Yet, staff is threatened with disciplinary actions all the way to termination for any overtime accrued including 1 or 2 minutes and missed time keeping events. Leadership seems to believe that it is acceptable for the staff to work so hard to meet their expectations of service while not providing adequate staffing. The hospital also will not hire applicants who have worked at a union hospital to minimize any influence of unionizing nursing and keep tight control on the staff. The hospital declines to use travelers while remaining critically understaffed in specific areas of the hospital. It's time Hoag came to the realization that authoritative and rigid leadership does not work it only burns out the employees.
