Pros

Some good co-workers and we worked well as a team. Not much else other than that.

Cons

IT was undergoing a transition in leadership through a new and unprofessional consulting firm with no checks and balances, major budget cuts as requested by the organization, offsetting of their toolset, and looking to outsource work overseas to India. Hoag does not foster an environment of growth/opportunity, but one of extreme toxicity, gaslighting, stress, cronyism, incompetence, negligence, and unprofessional/abusive behavior. Managers are very unqualified (Lacking both technical and professional skills) to run a department efficiently, and they will micromanage you to a tee. They only care about how higher-ups perceive them and want employees who will massage their ego. They act nice or suck up to C-suite/leadership when they are physically present but are disrespectful when higher-ups are not around and openly gossip about their subordinates (Handled many situations poorly through altercation, vulgar/profane language, and yelling as a tool to intimidate or humiliate employees). Managers become belligerent if you offer constructive feedback (In their mind, they are never wrong) and always feel the need to lead or be in control of meetings/calls with vendors or leadership despite being clueless about the subject matter (Doing this makes any department/team look inept). They have confronted subordinates days later about this out of spite in a very hostile manner (Emotionally unstable and very impulsive behavior), thinking this was our way to antagonize/embarrass them in front of leadership (e.g. While chastising us about her insecurities, my former manager openly said in front of other colleagues, "It is all about perception, and it's our job to make her look good in front of C-suite!"). HR does not care about your concerns of harassment when you bring these issues to light (Leadership and HR are quick to place blame on you for speaking up) after several complaints. Their only interest is in protecting the company, not the common employee. The message HR and leadership sends is that they enable this behavior/culture at Hoag, and they have failed to act or help in a time of need knowing the issues that persists. They only care about advancing the aforementioned agenda or this transition/cutover for their firm. Going to work everyday was very strenuous and taxing, as it felt as if you were constantly walking on eggshells. Hoag has no respect for work-life balance, and they do not allow remote work at a time when many organizations have adopted remote/hybrid options during and after the pandemic. There is no regard for one's well-being, and I would not recommend anyone to ever consider working here. The work you will take part in is quite mundane, and employees are treated as cogs in the system with no opportunities for development. Many good employees have left to pursue other opportunities for these reasons.

Pros

My time working at Hoag Hospital as an IT Trainer has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve truly appreciated the work-life balance, which has helped me feel supported both professionally and personally. Hoag has created an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and connected. I always look forward to the annual IT summits and IT town halls because they bring everyone together, encourage learning, and help us stay connected to the bigger picture within IT. I’ve especially appreciated the emphasis on employee engagement and the effort leadership puts into making employees feel included and informed. Those experiences have contributed to a strong sense of community and pride in being part of the Hoag team.

Cons

One challenge I have experienced is that opportunities to participate in certain projects or initiatives do not always feel evenly distributed, which can make professional growth feel inconsistent across team members. In addition, there have been times when the work environment has felt more micromanaged than expected for a salaried position, particularly in situations where employees are capable of working independently. I believe increased trust, autonomy, and equitable access to development opportunities could further strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.
