Pros

Cool views, nice facilities. That’s pretty much it.

Cons

As many have stated, the most common and persistent cons with this organization are: a disconnect between the level of productivity expected from you and the pay, corrupt senior leadership, expectation of long hours without overtime, even if you’re hourly and not giving remote flexibility despite the exorbitant COL in Newport Beach, HB, Irvine, Costa Mesa (their main locations) Many people here have posted that there is no remote work. That is wrong. Whoever is deemed as being special enough to be on their special list is granted remote work. And there are others that are on “secret” hybrid schedules under the table. This is based on nothing but their own bias and discrimination. During my time there, I saw him multiple colleagues be laughed out of the office when they came to their leader with requests for remote accommodations. These are individuals with MD verified health issues such as cancer, chronic pain, etc. even though reasonable accommodation of remote work for those with disabilities is law under the ADA. There was even a time where a person was granted fully remote work, because the promotion that was promised to them, was given to somebody else. Essentially to get them to “pipe down”. What does that say about a company? Why do you think this company is so vehemently against unions to the point that they would rather be understaffed than hire any nurses from union hospitals. Because if there was a union in place, they wouldn’t be able to exploit their workers like they do. Bottom line is if you have any interest in having good work life balance, being paid well and being able to have flexible work schedules this is absolutely not the place. I have worked for many different hospitals, and Hoag by far paid the least, yet demanded the most. The only thing management at this company care about are metrics, and how their higher-ups perceive them. They will work you into the ground so they can have better numbers to present to their superiors.

Pros

My time working at Hoag Hospital as an IT Trainer has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve truly appreciated the work-life balance, which has helped me feel supported both professionally and personally. Hoag has created an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and connected. I always look forward to the annual IT summits and IT town halls because they bring everyone together, encourage learning, and help us stay connected to the bigger picture within IT. I’ve especially appreciated the emphasis on employee engagement and the effort leadership puts into making employees feel included and informed. Those experiences have contributed to a strong sense of community and pride in being part of the Hoag team.

Cons

One challenge I have experienced is that opportunities to participate in certain projects or initiatives do not always feel evenly distributed, which can make professional growth feel inconsistent across team members. In addition, there have been times when the work environment has felt more micromanaged than expected for a salaried position, particularly in situations where employees are capable of working independently. I believe increased trust, autonomy, and equitable access to development opportunities could further strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.
