Pros

New and well-maintained facilities, including office buildings. There are some very nice people that are passionate about what they do.

Cons

- Very limited remote/hybrid options. You will likely not get the option. 99% of the workforce is expected to be onsite Monday-Friday. - No Casual Fridays. Business professional Monday-Friday. Very strict on dress code adherence. Witnessed someone get anonymously reported for blue hair. - Poor PTO and holiday benefits. You get 28 days of PTO, but you will have to use that PTO for all holidays, including federal holidays. - Very conservative and traditional office/business mindset. Think the 80s and 90s. No modernization as most execs have been with Hoag all their careers and have not experienced other organizations. - Poor employee appreciation. The atmosphere is "You are lucky to work at Hoag" not "Hoag is lucky to have you". - At times there is a weird cult fascination around the hospital's founder. - Excessively snotty organization which is shocking for healthcare. Big emphasis on thousand-dollar ticket galas and golf tournaments. Very "We are the best in the world" but not in a good way.

Pros

My time working at Hoag Hospital as an IT Trainer has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve truly appreciated the work-life balance, which has helped me feel supported both professionally and personally. Hoag has created an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and connected. I always look forward to the annual IT summits and IT town halls because they bring everyone together, encourage learning, and help us stay connected to the bigger picture within IT. I’ve especially appreciated the emphasis on employee engagement and the effort leadership puts into making employees feel included and informed. Those experiences have contributed to a strong sense of community and pride in being part of the Hoag team.

Cons

One challenge I have experienced is that opportunities to participate in certain projects or initiatives do not always feel evenly distributed, which can make professional growth feel inconsistent across team members. In addition, there have been times when the work environment has felt more micromanaged than expected for a salaried position, particularly in situations where employees are capable of working independently. I believe increased trust, autonomy, and equitable access to development opportunities could further strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.
