Pros

Competitive compensation and benefits. A handful of talented individual contributors (most either burned out or have left).

Cons

Cons: Digital and Marketing are run like a PR agency masquerading as a product and strategy team. They chase visibility, not value. Despite lofty titles and big talk, there is no cohesive strategy behind their decisions just a never-ending cycle of OUTSOURCING WORK TO AGENCIES with zero ROI. TENS OF MILLIONS have been funneled into external partners to build campaigns and digital products that no one engages with, buys into, or even remembers. Internally, there's little understanding of user needs, product-market fit, or performance metrics. It’s marketing theater at enterprise scale. The Chief Digital & Customer Innovation Officer is the architect of this disaster. With no grasp of how to build or deliver digital products, she relies on buzzwords like “digital transformation” to mask the vacuum of leadership underneath. Her contributions consist of interviews, surface-level cheerleading, and self-branding. Strategy, execution, and results? Nowhere to be found. The digital product portfolio is a graveyard of unused tools and ineffective campaigns—overdesigned, overbudget, and utterly disconnected from patient or customer needs. Accountability is absent. Leadership deflects, defends, and disappears when results are questioned. What remains is a culture fueled by fear, optics, and internal competition instead of innovation and clarity.

Pros

My time working at Hoag Hospital as an IT Trainer has been incredibly meaningful. I’ve truly appreciated the work-life balance, which has helped me feel supported both professionally and personally. Hoag has created an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and connected. I always look forward to the annual IT summits and IT town halls because they bring everyone together, encourage learning, and help us stay connected to the bigger picture within IT. I’ve especially appreciated the emphasis on employee engagement and the effort leadership puts into making employees feel included and informed. Those experiences have contributed to a strong sense of community and pride in being part of the Hoag team.

Cons

One challenge I have experienced is that opportunities to participate in certain projects or initiatives do not always feel evenly distributed, which can make professional growth feel inconsistent across team members. In addition, there have been times when the work environment has felt more micromanaged than expected for a salaried position, particularly in situations where employees are capable of working independently. I believe increased trust, autonomy, and equitable access to development opportunities could further strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.
