Pros
Get to do a variety of decorations for the store as well as clients. Also loved helping the DIY brides create their dream weddings, as well as crafters trying a new project out. If you have a great store it becomes a family- we had potlucks, monthly birthday recognitions. It was the most positive environment I had worked in- even on a “bad” day, I still felt the support. Sundays off and a rotation of weeknights worked as well as weekends. Not a lot of grief for wanting time off either...just as long as I asked in advance.
Cons
Extremely physical. This is a no rest job and certain projects are due within the hours you work even if you had high customer demands that day or not. You are required to unload a truck on delivery day, sort the boxes, open and sort items to various departments, and then stock your department items that day. If Xmas items are also arriving you are also required to climb ladders and put items on the top caps all on the same day as the truck’s arrival....all while helping customers. Once you are finished you then help other departments finish their stocking before you all can go home. It is a very long truck day that occurs once a week.
