Pros

wages without benefits-- I didn't need insurance or other benefits and the 18% pay raise helped fund any vacation time, education expenses upon hire you find that many people have been here for decades (25+ years) cheap cafeteria meals if you desire what they're serving up that day HR is amazing-- namely Fela. Any questions are respectfully and fully answered by her and she's always happy to help.

Cons

In my dept (OR and related) it is heavily clique-dependent and if you're not adding/participating in the social drama you are essentially shunned. Lack of communication skills amongst staff, they simply report their concerns with the OR manager. This resorts to a laundry list of faults that are never addressed until the employee is already on their way out. Benefits are from HNE now, apparently this is a downfall from the previous Blue Benefit. Hard to move up in career ladder due to seniority on same level calling the shots. Management often doesn't have training or prior managing experience and this can impact said communication skills. Cliquey environment. Started dreading coming into work after the first month for the first time in my life. Manager added to drama and gossip instead of working it out amongst employees involved.

Pros

It's small enough to really get to know your coworkers which in turn enhances team work and moral. Employees like each other, and enjoy working together, Many have been there for 10+ years. It's the closest to "we're like a big family" being legit than any local hospital system in Western MA. The senior leadership is genuinely invested in supporting the staff, the organization, the community, and the patients. It's refreshing to have a senior leadership team that is approachable and responsive.

Cons

It's a small community hospital so funds are not as exuberant as some of the other health systems in MA and CT, but it's leadership is resourceful and transparent with how funds are utilized.
