Pros

The only pros is the health insurance is pretty decent, it is within the city of DC, and has a laid back work environment.

Cons

Low pay, poor facilities that are run down, low staffing which makes the job more challenging, lack of respect from higher ups, and never felt safe working (since employed there have been too many bomb threats to count). In one year it seemed as if every department was going on strike due to poor working conditions.

Pros

Opportunity to mentor and support students as they learn technical concepts. Flexible schedule that worked well alongside coursework. Developed communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Collaborated with faculty and other TAs in a supportive environment. Gained hands-on experience explaining complex topics to students with different learning styles. Rewarding to see students improve and succeed throughout the semester.

Cons

Workload can fluctuate significantly around assignment deadlines and exams. Balancing TA responsibilities with personal coursework can be challenging. Limited influence over course policies and curriculum decisions. Some tasks can be repetitive, such as grading or answering similar questions. Compensation may not always reflect the time commitment during busy periods. Communication between instructors, TAs, and students can occasionally be inconsistent.
