A lot of skill sets expected for the wage. Safety and procedures are many times a dog n pony show, taking back seat to production. As does real maintenance of the equipment. Wage improvement depends a lot on moving around the shop to different positions, but moving is generally at the whim of management with no set procedure for doing so pay can end up essentially stagnating, other than cost of living adjustment.
