Pros
The directors and employees were nice, helpful, and professional. You can request off easily. Got a chance to work with children of different ages and needs. Didn't have to communicate with parents - the directors do that. Didn't have to worry about lesson plans. They look at teachers as professionals. The required employee meetings were not a waste of time - I actually obtained good information from them. Directors always encouraged us to make school connections so students can use skills in school. Directors were very supportive and helpful to teachers when students are having discipline issues.
Cons
Not too many part time hours. The pay could be better. I know I didn't have to worrry about communicating with parents and doing lesson plans, but $15 an hour rather than $10 would be nice considering that teachers must be certified. The lessons are taken from several books so the lessons are mostly disjointed, but I communicated how skills can be intergrated as I was teaching to make lessons less disjointed. The training was structured - but would have liked more practice. Some of the students - especially the secondary students - do not want to be there and do not behave well.
