Pros

Hyland is, hands down, viewed as one of the best places to work in the Greater Cleveland area. Software Engineers have it pretty good there, and usually have access to good equipment, good tools, and supportive teams. In terms of the company, the CEO is a classy, down-to-earth guy who does his best to live up to the core values of the organization.

Cons

Many software engineers feel extremely unclear about their career paths, a situation exacerbated by the constant fumbling in this area by the department's leadership, many of whom were promoted into their roles with no prior management experience. Poorly defined roles, unwillingness to accept the reality of today's salaries, and arrogance at the top cause many quality people to leave after only a few years.

Pros

Remote or hybrid capability. Usually a flexible schedule.

Cons

Constant quiet firing. They've figured out how to avoid public disclosures quite well. Every month they're whacking batches of 20~30 employees - esp. if you were in a higher pay band or part of an acquired company. There's constant leadership churn as of late - not that leadership was ever that great, but the clownshow has more makeup on the pigs now. If you were part of an acquired company, the stench of nepotism was constant. Hyland doesn't provide legitimate training or certification assistance for everyone. Their products would fail any sort of security scan by an AI tool too. If you're a customer, buyer beware.
