Pros

It's a tough economy for writing jobs, so if you can't find one anywhere else, this place probably won't kill you. It will get you to New York so you can look for something better. But make sure you're always applying elsewhere and make sure that you haggle your salary up by 25%. -They have plenty of writers so you can focus on a narrow beat if you want. -If you're a young writer, the editors can help you get better. -Top editors try their best to listen to staffers. -The awful pay is at least helped with bonuses: $500 bonus for best story of the week, $3,000 bonus for 900,000 views in a month. -Since the start of January, some verticals have been getting better at allowing their writers to spend the time it takes to do good work (some are getting worse, though.) -It's possible for some people to not let the drama bother you. -They hire good writers and editors who want to do good journalism.

Cons

-Serious, regular, public legal drama. Check the news. -Dishonesty with hiring practices. -Sensationalist headlines (that you have to put your name on) -Extremely unfair pay -Insane expectations to write 4 or more articles a day and get 600,000-1 million views a month -Best practices are made-up -Terrible benefits -Nearly everyone hates it -You could get fired or laid off at any moment. -Are we just a front for money laundering or something?

Pros

Since I've been here for a while, my POV may be much different than someone who just started. I find there's a lot of freedom for people who have been here a while, especially on my vertical - I know other verticals don't have it as easy even if they've been working here a while. But its not that hard to learn the loopholes of the place and make them work to your benefit. It's pretty easy to work from home and a lot of people abuse it with no consequences.

Cons

If you're not white or male, over 30 or don't have an Ivy League pedigree you're going to get treated like crap. When I started this place was somewhat diverse, but now the majority of the editors are old white men and there are barely even any reporters of color or culture. There is no growth opportunities - in fact, most of the young editors have been demoted and pushed out.
