In my division, there was a clear focus on placing individuals in management roles without providing the corresponding management pay. As an individual contributor, I was repeatedly assigned project management tasks that were beyond the scope of my role. This practice has unfortunately resulted in many mid-level managers being promoted prematurely, leaving them ill-prepared to effectively manage people. My own manager was incompetent and unhelpful, and when mass layoffs occurred, it made me wonder why she was not axed as well.
