Pros

Standard 40 hr work week, 3 tier retirement package with defined benefit annuity, 401k and Social Security, great health insurance packages with optional vision and dental, life insurance available, union representation if desired, ability to work from home, standard mileage paid for all case travel, per diem paid for overnight travel, lots of promotion opportunities available in the future as 90% of workforce will be retiring over the next decade, step increases in pay for years worked, 6 hours of vacation time earned every two weeks, Federal Holidays.

Cons

Stigma of being an IRS agent, having people not like you, being the bearer of bad news in many cases, frustration of obtaining documentation and/or cooperation from stubborn and obstructive CPA firms, documenting in very great detail every single action you take, minding all the details to ensure that all procedural rules and protections are being followed perfectly.

Pros

It's lost a lot of the perks that drew me in the first place. The floor level people are very supportive of one another. But that's human nature.

Cons

The management is, in a reciprocation of the trope, an 'old girls club.' The criteria for those that want to get in is to 'not be threatening or easily controlled'. Everyone else is either forced out through the coordinated gatekeeping of the club, or waited out as most of the management is a temporary assignment. For the past two years I've been promised help and guidance, and I receive none. It's hard to be willing to help on special assignments when I'm punished for doing them in the first place.
