Pros

- My unit has a great team. Nurses and Clinical Technicians working together pretty harmoniously most of the time. There is an application we use to recognize each others' strengths and contributions. - Opportunities to get involved in committees, councils, etc. You can make participation a learning/leadership opportunity while working toward positive change for the unit/hospital. (Involvement may also look good on a future resume.) - Good benefits, especially the 25 free therapy or coaching sessions. - Scheduling flexibility, especially once you gain some seniority. Full time employees normally work 3 days a week, so it is pretty easy to flex your schedule for small vacations, taking classes, volunteering, etc. as long as you plan 1.5 to 2 months ahead of time. - I've had the opportunity to see some procedures performed by nurses and PAs. I've been floated to other units and got to learn a bit about different patient populations and their illnesses or surgeries, etc. This is great job to do for a few years to get the feel of the hospital environment and medical field or to gain practical experience before going to nursing, PA, or medical school.

Cons

- Limited opportunities for growth in the Clinical Technician role. They may be coming out with a new system for growth in the role, but for now, the highest you can climb is Clin Tech 2. Your pay may not increase comparably to inflation. You get very little extra pay for training new hires. - Would be nice if there was a printed and digital handbook when you get hired with all the attendance, uniform policies, etc. Even for someone who is pretty tech savvy, it has not been easy to find the basic information in all the digital new hire materials and Inova websites. You hear different things from different people who have worked there for various lengths of time.

Pros

Safe care, safe ratios, good coworkers, some good managers

Cons

Pay and benefits aren't competitive even though they claim to market adjust. Like other hospital systems the upper management doesn't really care about employee satisfaction and policies for staff are getting worse, incentives for working short shifts have declined significantly. I notice micromanaging. I feel but manager and supervisors are good, but more and more power is taken from them it seems.
