Pros

Some good souls at the associate level who empathize with you.

Cons

Brace yourself because this is going to be a long review. The organization operates like a cult, it has gone from a start up to a mid-sized private company to a public company and now under private equity, but this journey has done nothing to fix the broken people at the top and the toxic culture that permeates throughout. The senior "leadership" has only one solution for every problem - reorganization and layoffs. This company goes through more reorgs than Tampa Bay Rays lineup! Every reorg is followed by a layoff which demolishes whatever is left of the employee morale. Yearly reorgs and layoffs means no ideas are ever allowed to grow and mature. You are not allowed to build meaningful professional relationships because you are shuffled from one team to another or worse laid off. They have a large indentured foreign labor, and i guess its the only way this company can retain people long enough. Expensive, half-baked, ill-thought out projects are started and canned midway. Clients are constantly lied to and mislead. The products are not years but a decade+ behind competition! Features that only exists on a PPT deck are sold as real and then fullfilled manually! The churn is real even at SVP and C-level, and with every change comes a complete overhaul of existing policies and procedures causing mass disruption, this happens without fail once every 18-24 months, processes and guidelines are dropped and new processes put in place without a concern or thought about operational continuity. The "bonus" if it can be called as such is comically inadequate, and the compensation is atleast 30% below market. All things aside, the worst aspect of your life at inovalon is the toxicity and politics. Each day is like walking on eggshells, hoping no one sees you and throws you under the bus, hope you don't unintentionally upset some mid-level demigod of a manager! It is team Vs team, department vs department, product vs product and product vs engineering, it is a war zone!

Pros

The company was a great place to work under the leadership of its founder and CEO. It offered strong products, a positive culture, and exceptional sales leadership. However, after the founder and president departed, the company’s direction and leadership changed significantly, impacting the overall employee experience.

Cons

Since the leadership transition, the focus appears to have shifted away from employees and more toward financial performance and investor perception. The company has gone through multiple rounds of layoffs, while at the same time hiring sales representatives who often seemed underprepared for the role. Much of the enablement function was reduced or eliminated, with an increasing reliance on AI-driven solutions. Leadership within my department was challenging (toxic). There was a noticeable tendency to favor individuals brought in from a previous company, which negatively impacted morale and team dynamics - leadership was clueless . The leadership style often came across as inflexible, with limited openness to alternative perspectives or collaboration. It was a “I know best because I’m so experienced so it should be THIS way” mentality . As a result, cross-functional relationships suffered (sales leaders didn’t respect dept leadership) and there was little partnership with sales leadership to reinforce training and enablement initiatives. One bright spot was the Sales Engineering organization. The team was highly skilled, well-respected, and led by an exceptional leader who fostered a strong culture and delivered real value to the business. Overall, while the company offers solid products and has talented people in certain areas, the culture, leadership decisions, and ongoing organizational instability make it difficult for me to recommend as a long-term career destination.
