Pros
You get a Top Secret clearance. THEORETICALLY the hourly pay is good. You get a good allowance for call-outs, trust me, you will need them…
Cons
Ok, here we go. They list the job offering as “full-time” but the company never stops hiring so there aren’t enough posts to go around except for the summer. EXPECT LESS THAN TEN-HOUR WORK WEEKS AT TIMES. Sometimes you won’t be on the schedule at all… The schedule is THE MOST INCONSISTENT I have EVER seen. There are a LOT of FOUR HOUR shifts too, sometimes officers get sent home early if they don’t need them. YOU GET NO GUARANTEED SCHEDULE!!! DON’T MOVE YOUR RESIDENCE TO TAKE THIS JOB, it’s not stable employment. The company LOVES to violate the collective bargaining agreement with the union… ALL THE TIME. You are SUPPOSED to be guaranteed 36 hours a week as a full-time, non-probationary officer but you will almost NEVER get that as a probationary officer, a lot of the time even the non- probationary officers get less. You get NO guaranteed breaks, it’s all based on “needs of the contract”. You COULD work 12 hours straight with no chance to eat, especially in the summer. The turnover rate is INSANELY high by design. The company gets a bonus paid to them for every new officer hired. You are a real trooper if you last more than a year. It’s new employees coming in EVERY day. Lots of people don’t know what they are doing. The company is terrible altogether. This is an unreliable, unsupportive company that will write you up, leaving you a poor disciplinary record, for the SMALLEST of things. Talking? Write up. Leaning against a rail? Write up. Eating on post because you weren’t given a meal break? Write up. Talking back to a supervisor because you are fed up with being submitted to working conditions that NO other employer (save the military) subjects you to? Write up. THEY WILL RELEASE THIS DISCIPLINARY RECORD TO YOUR NEXT EMPLOYER IF YOU USE INTER-CON AS EMPLOYMENT HISTORY. It’s almost like they WANT to sabotage you… The list goes on but I HIGHLY recommend that you STAY AWAY from Inter-Con Security unless you have reliable supplemental income and you are just trying to get a clearance and move on.
