Pros

The mission to strengthen journalism across various media and around the world, especially in harsh contexts, is incredibly unique and necessary. It is a wonderful mission that most staff feel passionately about. Content is cross-functional so you are exposed to a variety of social issues. Internews works around the world and they are dedicated to real social change. They pay marginally better than most NGOs of similar size.

Cons

If you work in any of the field locations or are mid or senior management, there is next to zero work-life balance. People love what they do, but when they do nothing but that it really results in a lack of creativity and inability to experiment and learn. There is a lot of lip service to these concepts, but not much leadership to support staff in terms of professional development and more say in what the organization prioritizes.

Pros

Decent work life balance sometimes

Cons

Lack of decisiveness from program leadership. People working together too long would rather be friends than colleagues
