Pros

Networking and building friendships with members which leads to better opportunities.

Cons

Completely missing the boat on treatment of employees. You are made to feel like you are easily replaced with another warm body. Department heads, managers and regionals are only concerned with his or her bonus. You have to get a promotion to get a raise. No personal growth. Very expensive health insurance. Lean staffing most of the time. Disorganized.

Pros

Strong work-life balance compared to public accounting. Leadership is supportive and approachable. The work is meaningful and provides exposure to ASC 740, multi-entity tax provision work, and corporate tax compliance. Employees are generally encouraged to collaborate and help each other succeed.

Cons

Compensation growth may lag behind opportunities available in some areas of public accounting. Advancement opportunities can be limited due to a relatively lean tax department structure. Some processes remain heavily dependent on spreadsheets and manual workflows, which can create inefficiencies during busy periods.
