Pros
There are a few opportunities to learn new skills. Many colleagues are genuinely nice people. Students are amazingly dedicated.
Cons
Administrators have no teaching experience. The leviathan bureaucracy is overwhelming. Pay is 1/2 to 2/3rds what you can get elsewhere. The best faculty leave, which is why you are now seeing fake posts by administrators saying that Ivy Tech is great. No one, I mean NO ONE, that is faculty thinks this is a good job. Faculty are used, abused, and ridiculed constantly. If you are thinking about joining Ivy Tech, simply look at the pay in any other state nearby. At a recent Program Chair Summit, the CEO appeared to be drunk, couldn't work the clicker, and ended his presentation short (20 minutes out of 60 scheduled).
