Pros

Some structure to be able to utilize. Able to be a merchandiser to a small degree. Due to the setup of the company you are able to be able to use creativity to create systems and develop. They are trying to streamline some things but this is a double edge sword as they will be cutting your payroll as fast as they think something is more efficient. Benefits were pretty decent/competitive.

Cons

Well the company can't make a profit and if you have to run one you will understand why. Huge shipments of ridiculous merchandise that will eventually require an hour of payroll ($8.50) per shirt to keep clearance marked and organized through out it's life. I.E. no bonuses. You will probably also notice you burn 10-20 hours of payroll (that you don't have for core process) on some zaney project via HQ just to have it generate no revenue let alone any profit. The lack of profit has led to a hard line management regime to ensure process is running to the way JCPenney wants it thinking it's the stores fault for the company not being able to make money. This is all happening in the middle of a general recession no one wants to acknowledge as well. So what I'm saying is don't expect any high fives and do expect to not know what might happen to your job or store come February. They are pretty loosey goosey with HR. If they want you gone they will fit what they can around your neck and enact the full force of "up to termination".

Pros

Decent hours, you get off earlier depending on the size of the truck coming in that day which can be a good and bad thing. You also get several hours before the store opens without customers. No late nights.

Cons

Too early for some, and even earlier mornings during high traffic times of the year like Christmas/Black Friday Sales days.
