Pros

Judi Health has a meaningful mission of bringing transparency to a historically opaque pharmaceutical benefits industry and works on the complex challenge of unifying healthcare and pharmacy benefits. The successes are tangible and affect everyone from patients to employers. The company has many capable, collaborative people, and are generally supportive, knowledgeable, and willing to help across teams. Engineers have IC opportunities to work on large systems and gain exposure to healthcare, claims processing, integrations, and regulated workflows. The best part of Judi Health is its understanding and work flexibility: remote. This has been a clear advantage of the company in drawing high-tier talent that has been able to deliver goals and objectives ahead of schedule. The engineering culture can provide substantial ownership. Developers can have the opportunity to influence architecture, improve processes, and solve problems that have real-world effect and improvement. For those engineers who love solving in ambiguity, there are greenfield projects that push the growth of Judi Health as a whole.

Cons

The company has experienced considerable change, restructuring, and leadership change. Priorities and team structures can shift quickly (and frequently) sometimes before previous initiatives have had time to mature. This can make the culture and morale "shaky" and challenging to navigate for long-term planning. This can lead to projects being redirected. Engineering processes and decision-making happen at the team-level. This in addition to the company being in a highly technical, highly regulated space can leave ownership, product direction, and product priorities not fully defined. This is not uncommon at other technical organizations and is navigable by experienced senior engineers, but it may frustrate those from organizations/teams with stable priorities, solidified processes, and clearly defined career paths.

Pros

Not much positives while I was there.

Cons

Joining this company initially felt like a great opportunity, but it quickly became clear that the internal culture and leadership dynamics were deeply unhealthy. One of the most troubling things I experienced was bullying by tech leads who were closely aligned with upper leadership. I witnessed a tech lead, a Scrum Master, and a Product Manager coordinate to give poor performance reviews to an entire team — not based on merit, but seemingly to justify replacing the team with others they preferred. That team was dismantled and rebuilt multiple times, yet the individuals behind the dysfunction remained untouched due to their close ties with company leadership. Favoritism was widespread. Certain individuals were shielded from accountability because of personal relationships with executives, while others — even high performers — were unfairly targeted. Performance reviews were weaponized, with some given the power to evaluate others while never being evaluated themselves.
