Pros

I have worked at K12 for going on three years and have read some of the other reviews on Glassdoor. Based on my time here, I don’t think they accurately reflect what a “typical” employee would experience and hope that if you’re reading this, would take my account into consideration. While certainly not perfect, K12 really is what they advertise: a company of educators. The vast majority of the people that work here are invested somehow in the successful education of students using online technology. That investment can be anything from directly teaching students, developing online curriculum, or making sure that students receive their materials in the mail on-time. Some Pros include: • Regardless of your role, you’re working to provide an education option for students, many of who turn to K12 because going to a “normal” school didn’t work for them • Even though the company has been around for 15 years, full-time online schooling is still relatively new and so the spirit is still relatively entrepreneurial where innovative ideas are rewarded • The people that work at K12 are generally friendly and willing to work together. Even the CEO is approachable, often making his own copies at the communal copier, walking around and saying hello to employees • From a financial standpoint, the company is making money and has no debt, so the likelihood of your job being affected from a company health issue is unlikely

Cons

• Being part of the online education movement has a large amount of opponents from legislators to unions. The company is constantly under attack for offering an alternative to traditional education • The company is spread out. Not everyone is in HQ or even in a few locations around the country. Thousands work from home. You have to be OK working with people remotely. • Pay and benefits are fair, but not fantastic. Fairly typical of companies today. That said, the company is big enough to offer upside opportunities for most everyone. If you are good, you’ll be successful.

Pros

Great collaboration with highly professional colleagues who truly care about teaching and education. Work remotely.

Cons

Insufficient training for the many responsibilities of the position. Insufficient follow-up from the upper administration on said responsibilities. Workload increased to levels that made completion of said workload difficult (with putting in extra hours without added compensation) to basically impossible. Difficult to change roles (at least, in my position). Many additional hours away from the classroom, which greatly disrupted educational continuity.
