Pros

I enjoy working at KPMG because the people for the most part are very competent. The hours you work while numerous are flexible. If I want to be here until two in the morning one night so I can leave at four the following day nobody questions it. It's truly a matter of getting the job finished and finished well rather then simply being here because other people are.

Cons

The number one downside of working at KPMG is that promotions are in no way shape or form based on merit and are in large part due to tenure. I am currently stuck working on a project that I am leading because my senior associate is incompetent but because she has been here longer is above me on the chain of command I technically report to her and she receives the positive recognition. The other major downside to working at KPMG is you should never and I mean never ever calculate your hourly rate because you'll want to shoot yourself.

Pros

It might sound cliche but the Pro for me is the people that I work with. I'm lucky enough to be staffed in a team with great leadership. Managers are actually willing to coach junior members and be a real mentor. I very much appreciate their efforts.

Cons

Long hours and office politics. This is pretty basic and obvious for any public accounting firms. Every time a quarter end, year end, or a special filing is going out, you can expect 10-14 hour days. It might be fine in your early career but it gets really tiring after a few years.
