Pros

-Free or discounted access to test prep materials for yourself (great for current college students looking at grad/professional school) -Building teaching and testing skills for self -Hourly wage is competitive -Had only pleasant experiences with faculty managers

Cons

-Training takes many many hours and is paid at minimum wage. After working for over a year, I still think I probably spent more hours doing training than I did actively teaching. -Profit margin is ridiculous. Students paid approximately 4x my hourly wage for each hour of tutoring. Yes - they receive some other materials and services outside of my labor, but not enough to justify that price! I had parents offer to double my hourly wage and pay me independently from Kaplan - which would have actually saved them money. Unfortunately, this is clear violation of the non-compete agreement you have to sign when employed so you can't take advantage. -The insane prices for families are immoral, in my opinion. In the wake of the college admissions scandal, I found myself asking myself if I was part of the problem. -Depending on your geography and availability, it may be difficult to get hours. If you offer online teaching and have an open schedule, it is doable.

Pros

Remote and flexible. Good culture from higher up but team morale is down.

Cons

Turning more salesy than helping students. Too much focus on hitting budget.
