Pros

Two hour flex-time given for appointments, etc. with prior notification. Work independently, with little supervision during daily work activities. Opportunity to work remotely if meeting productivity and quality requirements.

Cons

-Forced Overtime for months. This is not optional (and no incentive is given), and it was not "here or there," or if/when the department is behind, but literally for MONTHS at a time!!! Two summers in a row, coders were forced to work OT, and it is still happening regularly! -Vacation, sick days, personal days, and holidays all come from accrued PTO hours. -No paid Holidays, although KHN recognizes the 6 major holidays, you either have to use your "accrued PTO" to get paid for the holiday, go without pay, or work the holiday. -Only two people within one coding department are able to request PTO or be off on any given day, making it difficult to get the day(s) off when wanted/needed. In addition, you cannot request time off in advance unless you have already banked/accrued the PTO hours. -Another words, you cannot request PTO for schedule time off, months in advance for future dates (planned vacation/cruise etc.), because you may not have accrued all the hours yet, although, by the time that future date rolls around, you will. -Poor work/life balance. -Gossip and unfair disadvantages/discrimination from management. Harshly reprimanded and targeted individuals, to the brink of quitting or being forced out via continued surveillance and denied access to resources. Thankfully this behavior was not aimed toward me, however I regularly witness this within our department from individuals that think I share the same opinions. It is uncomfortable and unfair to observe and experience the continued stress within the workplace aimed at my fellow team-members. -Coding trainers and team-leads are not on site and are rarely available. Questions and emails may go days before receiving a response, or go unanswered. -No opportunities to grow or cross-train in other HIM/coding roles such as Inpatient, Outpatient, Ambulatory Surgery, Ancillary, ROI, etc.
