Pros

The kids and families you work with are amazing and it is such rewarding work. They do employee of the month programs which are a bit biased but still fun. They do company outings and family parties often to help you all bond.

Cons

They DO NOT promote from within. They hire outsiders for higher ranking jobs and don’t promote experienced coaches even when they are promised the promotion. They constantly change pay rate for certain events and will not give you a straight up rate that you get paid for camps. They have one adult alone with 20 kids for camps and you only get paid maybe $8 an hour if youre lucky. They expect you to work holidays and have given us the excuse that corporate made them stay open for holidays, I later found out they had the option to close and give us the day off but they chose to lie about it. They cut alot of corners with staffing and would have the minimum amount possible to save money but management was then buying new cars for themselves so something seemed a little off. They would understaff a class and if there were multiple kids fighting, management would blame the coach and we would get talked to on how we could handle it better when many times it was impossible to handle several groups of children arguing at one time. Taking off was very difficult even if given advanced notice. At one point we were told that even if we were severely ill or injured we would still have to come in if someone couldnt cover for us. The boss was friends with some of the employees and gave those employees alot of slack on chores and bad behavior, but would be hard on those he didnt know as well. There were alot of unspoken expectations.

Pros

I cannot vouch for every center since they are not all owned by the same people, but they all fall under the same stipulations from HQ. The same values we instill in the kids we coach are the values management looks for in their coaches. There is little to no work drama, everyone has each other's backs when covering shifts, and there is always an opportunity to pick up extra shifts as well as advance into higher positions. I have been at KidStrong for roughly 1.5 years and have received two raises and two 'level ups'. This is genuinely the best place I have ever worked, and the day I leave will be really, really hard.

Cons

"Requires" off-the-clock work, such as watching videos and studying slides to learn the courses before coaching. Also since shifts are set and we do not clock in, I tend to have issues completing closing duties and still completing shift reports before my shift is up. Although requiring these things to be done off the clock is illegal, it is definitely phrased as if you will get written up if these things don't get done.
