Pros

There were no pros once Kiewit took over.

Cons

Kiewit came in to buy our employer around 2021, maybe 2022? A lot of of us knew this was bad news for us in the back offices. However, Kiewit told us that we “had nothing to worry about“, and our “…jobs aren’t going anywhere.”. Fast forward almost 2 years after the financial acquisition, there were mass firings since they had used us up and no longer needed our insight. During this time, they did fire a Finance employee who apparently, according to the employee, was not meeting weekly standards – however, we were working on a brand new ERP platform and were ensured we would be given some time to get up to speed and learn the layout of the land. This promised, brief patience was not provided, and that employee was fired, to suffer with no job as they were the sole income of their household. Kiewit and the finance managers who came in from Omaha treated us like cattle. I’m disappointed in the previous owners for how they handled the last 2 years of ownership, and how they just lied to their workforce.., some who had been with the company working diligently for them for decades. Kiewit stripped any character, personality, and enjoyability from the workplace. These days, I hear that if you act like a robot, you will keep your job at Kiewit. It’s sad, that is what the workplace has devolved to. Kiewit also worked some employees to the bone, without fair compensation so they could get their ducks in a row before firing said employees. Oh, and during HR training about Kiewits “culture”, and to “teach” us about them, the trainer told us there’s a long history of “hook-ups” Kiewit. He even showed us a blurred out inappropriate text that one coworker sent another, and the coworker was sitting on company owned equipment. The trainer did not express that the hookup culture and colleague relations was inappropriate. It was pretty gross.

Pros

Very Safety oriented, outfitted their crews with supplies and equipment without question, listened to employee questions and concerns and addressed them. Provided good facilities with heat and A/C as needed, coffee machines, microwaves, refrigerators, etc. Union contractor with the associated pay and benefits. Known to be an employer where people stay long term.

Cons

Long hours and detail oriented work but thats just the nature of the work. Some of the safety restrictions were a bit overboard.

Pros

Able to work on cool projects and potential to make a lot of money with cola

Cons

If you're ambitious at all, I probably wouldn't recommend working here. The pay is decent and if you're willing to stick around for 20+ years, you'll likely do just fine. But for me, the pace was too slow, the work was boring, and I never felt like I was doing anything meaningful or driving real business impact. The company is very stable, but that stability comes with tradeoffs. Career progression felt like a slow grind, and there was always the possibility of being forced to relocate depending on business needs. Personally, if you're young, motivated, and want to accelerate your career, I'd look for a role where you're directly contributing to growth, revenue, or strategic decision-making. If you're set on finance/FP&A, Kiewit can be a good place to spend a year and build experience, but I'd use it as a stepping stone rather than a long-term destination. Just my experience. —it just wasn't for me. - stayed 2 years - too long.
