The new CMO hired in late May 2021 is ruining what was once a strong, highly-functional team that delivered results. More than half the team has left in less than 4 months.
-His personality often comes across as aggressive and condescending which negatively impacts members of his team, others in the organization, vendors, and consultants.
-He possesses a micromanagement style, such as making minor edits to the same piece multiple times, which can lead to significant delays or rushes
-He may often ask the same question repeatedly and doesn't appear to retain the answers
-He tends to add large, new projects without reprioritizing what is already in-progress
-He has a tendency to set early morning meetings or 5 pm on Fridays
-When working with his team or others across the organization (or vendors), he rarely asks for your perspective or ideas regardless of your title. He wants things the way he wants them without additional input or much collaboration.
As a marketing team, remaining members are just quiet. Where everyone used to have a voice, most feel that it's simply not worth it. He also has a track record of embarrassing people in team meetings. Morale is at an all-time low.
Combine this culture with non-competitive compensation and I would not recommend this team for a marketing position. If you do, insist on talking to working members of the marketing team and not just corporate managers.
