Pros

Benefits and flexible hours--IT leadership seems to get that the status quo needs to change. Some other leaders understand this as well that are sprinkled around the county so some interesting change can be seen.

Cons

Most of the people are status quo--they lack a growth mentality and strive to keep things the same. Unions control to much, and weak overall leadership just keeps feeding the beast. Always the answer is more headcount rather than implementing transformational changes to streamline operations. IT leadership was very progressive in this space up until the old CTO left. Still seen as the most transformational group in the county but now fighting to many headwinds and an unsupportive administration. Employee's want to get paid for working half time. I went to go back and work in private industry where you don't deal with folks who have been in the same job for 20 years and have no idea how organizations look like outside of the county. I now believe (even though i was a member of one while at the county) that we should not allow public service employee's to unionize--its in nobodies best interest, definitely not the taxpayer.

Pros

Came to Rail from another division in the county, so much better than certain customer facing divisions. Work like balance and hybrid model are great. Lots of room for advancement in the admin world if you want it.

Cons

Can feel like you’re being micro managed or watched from the top at times but middle management is usually good at mitigating this.
