Pros
LAFH is committed to ending homelessness in LA and is good at analyzing ways to improve in that endeavor. We have a committed and talented staff that supports each other. LAFH has a good reputation in the community and it means something to have worked here. The work is meaningful and high impact. There is opportunity for growth, both in terms of skill and experience and as it relates to promotions within the organization. LAFH is flexible with your schedule if you are going back to school and encourages doing so. Over the last year, we have restructured the organization so that there is more "middle management". This has helped with training, supervision and team building.
Cons
There is a very high volume of work and we are often short staffed. Turnover is high both because salaries tend to be less than other similar agencies and due to the high demands of the work. Clients can be challenging and this can lead to stress on a day to day basis, but the clients are also the ones that make the job worth it. Ideally we would be able to hire more people and lighten caseloads. We need to pursue more training opportunities for our staff and steps are being taken to do that.
