Pros

As a full time employee you are able to enjoy tuition exemption, after one year.

Cons

Nepotism! Some relatives of long time employees are ushered into cushy jobs straight from student worker status. The exorbitant salaries of the school's administration, department heads, and middle managers. Very few individuals of other cultures are promoted upwards. When there are budget cuts, layoffs, etc., managers rewrite their job descriptions to achieve the seemingly impossible: a raise.

Pros

Benefits covered 90% of my healthcare needs. The time-off and work-from-home policies were flexible and allowed me to meet my military requirements.

Cons

The salary policy did not guarantee advancement for low-level employees. You are guaranteed a merit raise each year, but you cannot receive a salary raise within the same six-month period. If an Unclassified employee reaches the maximum of their pay scale, they will no longer receive a merit raise. A department supervisor must approve any pay scale increase. The appeal process takes longer than most are willing to accept.
