Pros

Learn a lot about how to run a clinical trial. For the most part, coworkers on your level are a pleasant experience to work with.

Cons

Well where do I begin? The "Compelling Offer" is a ploy to get you in the door at a decent rate and then they sandbag you with little to no raises once you're in. I've gotten a total of a 6% raise over my initial salary and I've been here over 4 years. Career development is a joke unless you know someone or have pictures of someone. On the Learning and Performance website, the career development tab has been "under construction" since June 2009 when the website was launched. Very siloed approach to how you can move within the organization. Transferring between departments is supposedly endorsed but rarely enacted. I was told by HR that if I wanted to move to clinical, I would have to drop down 3 levels and take a pay cut, sign a letter indicating that I requested it and there would be no guarantee with regards to a timetable to get back to my starting level. Employee Engagement survey in the summer of 2010 indicated very poor results with regards to employee happiness with pay and recognition. Over a year later, there have been no substanial changes. What did we waste the time to take a survey for? Technology, processes and training are outdated and need to be revamped. However, you always run into the "this is how we've always done it" mantra. When processes do get changed, people who've never done the legwork in their life make the decisions with no input from the lower level folks.

Pros

It has taught me what I do not want in an employer It gave me experience for way better opportunities It made me realize that being a good worker doesn’t always mean being rewarded

Cons

When injured from being overworked and exhausted , they treated me like trash When compassion fatigue hit— they judged and questioned whether I belonged there rather than understood People make up rumors about you even if you didn’t do anything (it’s like a catty high school in there) Having one bad day constitutes you getting pulled in the office to be scolded If you’re a good worker, and you get your stuff done efficiently, they stuff you with more work Many individuals treat the animals like trash and are covered up by management if they are the “favorites” Most of the trainers there are absolutely catty people and will talk behind your back if you’re “too slow” or “not learning fast enough”
