Pros

Tactical Systems USED to be a great place to work. Back when it was still Paravant Computer, it was voted "Best Workplace in Brevard" five years in a row. My, how things change!

Cons

The company was sold twice in the past 6 years, first to DRS Tech., and then DRS was bought-out by an Italian company. When the Italian co. came in, they started milking DRS to cover their own financial problems and management scandals. Employees ultimately paid the price through internal cutbacks in perks, miserly raises, and layoffs. This all happened BEFORE the military budget cutbacks. Several KEY contracts expired during 2012, leaving Tactical Systems with almost NO revenue after the third quarter. Much of this was simply the result of election-year politics. Tactical Systems has now been so badly crippled that it may not survive.

Pros

Well managed all around. Used to be a really good place to work, but since they went public, it's just a good place to work.

Cons

Defence industry, typical feast or famine. Either working over time to tight schedules or nothing to do.

Pros

The only Pro with this company was having every other Friday off.

Cons

Poor leadership and management culture. In my experience, management positions are often filled from a small, long-tenured group, resulting in limited diversity of thought and few opportunities for outside perspectives. Many leaders lacked the skills needed to effectively develop, mentor, and support their teams. Rather than addressing organizational issues, accountability often seemed to flow downward, with lower-level employees bearing the consequences of management decisions. I also observed talented Program Managers leaving or being terminated under circumstances that suggested they were being held responsible for broader organizational problems rather than receiving appropriate leadership support. Overall, the culture discouraged transparency, accountability, and professional growth.
