Pros

Great ICU and learning experience. I loved the nurses in the ICU and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. They went out of their way to teach me and give me a great experience.

Cons

The CNO and manager of the Critical Care Residency were not upfront when they interviewed me for this residency. I have 9 years experience as an LPN and have worked in all areas of medicine. I picked MICU and CCU for my rotation and I was pulled from CCU (I was told this was extremely rare) to SSU which was a disaster. My preceptor was extremely unprofessional and left me in an unsafe position with a patient who was unstable and did not listen to my assessment and the patient ended up being a rapid and sent to ICU. I was then changed to IICU on nights the nurses there were extremely unprofessional , lazy, and were lacking the basic nursing fundamentals. My preceptor left me to take care of all the patients we had while she went off to hang out with her friends and play on her phone. There was a point where I was exposed to bodily fluid in my eyes and when reported to to the charge nurse she said oh that happens not a big deal. There was no eye wash station on the unit and had to go down to the ER to have my eyes flushed. The units they have listed under critical care are not true critical care and have no staff or organization. These units are more like LTACH's I was told I would be placed in MICU, that did not happen when I went to interview I was told they had no openings and the manager said verbatim what my residency manager said which was have you thought about working in IICU. The residency manager told me if I was not placed then I would not have a job and I had another interview for CCU . I looked CCU had no openings and I worked very hard and never complained but I was not going to be bullied and placed into a unit that was not true critical care and toxic. The pay is extremely low and for having 9 years experience that gives me 5 years RN, they also breached my contract by not giving me my sign on bonus. I also found out that they had 5 openings in the MICU and they had lied and tried to put me on a step down floor which I did not want and said that at the very beginning of the interview. I do not recommend doing the Critical Care Residency as they are not transparent and you will not get placed in the unit you want. If you have experience they really do not take that into consideration or compensate you for that. Overall I would not recommend working for this hospital however, if you do weigh the pro's and con's and have everything in writing. The starting pay is $28.00 for a new RN. Not worth it
